Objectives of the Assignment

 

The Innovation Marketing Consultant will:

  • Identify the most compelling value propositions of selected crops from the perspective of Senegalese farmers.
  • Design and test marketing strategies that increase the adoption and sales of these crops.
  • Facilitate collaboration across teams to ensure alignment, creativity, and practicality of the proposed approaches.

The consultant will work closely with the VP of Innovation and collaborate closely with the Sales, Product and Senegal country team. 

 

Key Deliverables

  1. Farmer Research Insights

    • Conduct qualitative interviews with smallholder farmers in multiple regions of Senegal.

    • Synthesize insights into a short report outlining farmer preferences, pain points, and perceived benefits of selected crops.

  2. Facilitated Brainstorming Sessions

    • Lead structured ideation sessions with junior and senior myAgro staff to explore innovative marketing approaches.

    • Document outputs and facilitate convergence on the most promising ideas.

  3. Marketing Proposal for 2 Crops

    • Key messages and value propositions

    • Recommended communication channels and materials

    • Suggested price points, promotions, or bundles

    • Farmer segmentation insights

    • Develop a marketing plan for 2 selected crops, including:

  4. Field Testing and Iteration

    • Test draft marketing approaches with farmers through rapid prototyping and interviews.

    • Refine messages and channels based on direct farmer feedback.

  5. Results & Recommendations

    • Track early sales trends (if applicable) and submit final recommendations for scaling or further testing.

 

Profile & Requirements

Required:

  • Proven experience conducting fieldwork and farmer interviews in Senegal and / or West Africa..
  • Strong background in rural marketing, sales, or communication, preferably in an agricultural context.
  • Familiarity with marketing channels commonly used in rural Senegal (radio, door-to-door, SMS, USSD, IVR, village gatherings, etc.).
  • Languages: Fluent in French

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of other Senegalese local languages (e.g., Wolof, Serer, Pulaar); 
  • English proficiency 
  • Background in or familiarity with agriculture and crop-specific challenges/opportunities.
  • Experience working with social enterprises or NGOs.

Compensation & Logistics

  • Competitive consultancy rate based on experience.
  • Field transportation and data collection tools will be provided or reimbursed.
  • The role is primarily field-based, with regular travel to farmer communities.
